Topical pyridine N-oxides, including 3-carboxypyridine N-oxide, niacinamide N-oxide, and .alpha.-(4-pyridyl-1-oxide)-N-t-butylnitrone, are disclosed. The topical compositions have utility in a topical pharmaceutical formulation for the cosmetic treatment of hair loss and the cosmetic stimulation of hair growth.
